The mode is information, not a grade
Protect, Steady, and Full are not bad, average, and good days. They are three different operating conditions.
Choosing a mode gives Calm System permission to shape the plan around today rather than asking today to obey an old plan.
Protect
Use Protect when symptoms, exhaustion, grief, overload, or uncertainty make preservation the priority.
- Keep only true essentials.
- Reduce decisions and transitions.
- Add recovery before and after necessary activity.
- Let “enough” be deliberately small.
Steady
Use Steady for a workable day that still needs pacing and boundaries.
- Choose a small set of meaningful tasks.
- Alternate different kinds of effort.
- Keep buffer space visible.
- Stop before the plan becomes a test of endurance.
Full
Use Full when capacity is genuinely broader—not when pressure is louder.
- Use extra capacity intentionally.
- Protect tomorrow from today’s enthusiasm.
- Keep breaks and stopping cues in the plan.
- Do not treat one higher-capacity day as a new permanent baseline.
When you are unsure
Choose the more protective mode. You can expand later if the day stays stable. A smaller honest plan is more useful than an ambitious plan that hides its cost.
Begin with the capacity you have today.
